이 집은 이미 가장 좋은 재료를 하나 가지고 있었습니다. 창밖의 한강입니다. 돈으로 살 수 없고 새로 만들 수도 없는 이 재료를 어떻게 생활 안으로 끌어들일 것인가에서 설계를 시작했습니다.

경기 남양주시 덕소에 자리한 한솔강변마을 아파트는 93.4㎡ 규모의 아파트입니다. 2020년 리모델링을 완료했습니다. 조망이라는 재료 앞에서 우리의 역할은 무엇을 새로 놓을지 고르는 것이 아니라 이 풍경을 가리는 것을 치우는 데 있도록 두었습니다. 거실의 주인공을 TV가 아니라 창밖 한강으로 설정했습니다. 창가를 따라 긴 다이닝 테이블을 배치해, 낮에는 햇살을 받으며 커피를 마시는 자리로, 밤에는 야경과 함께 가족이 대화를 나누는 자리로 쓰이게 했습니다. 사계절의 변화를 가장 가까이서 느낄 수 있는 이 자리가 지금은 클라이언트가 집에서 가장 아끼는 공간이 되었습니다.

현관은 협소한 데다 문을 열자마자 거실이 그대로 보이는 구조여서 구획이 먼저 필요했습니다. 신발장을 파티션 삼아 현관과 거실을 나누되, 자칫 답답해질 수 있는 신발장 측면 도어 전체를 동경으로 마감했습니다. 중문이 열릴 때 거실 풍경이 거울에 비치면서 현관이 두 배로 넓어 보이는 착시가 생기고, 외출 전 매무새를 가다듬는 실용성까지 함께 얻었습니다.

전체 톤은 클라이언트가 이미 가지고 있던 가구와 그림의 배경이 되도록 설계했습니다. 내추럴 우드톤 강마루를 바탕에 깔고 벽면은 크림색 벽지로 맞췄습니다. 화이트보다 안락한 크림색은 창으로 들어오는 빛의 각도에 따라 집 안의 표정을 다르게 만듭니다.

기존 주방은 조리 공간이 좁고 냉장고 위치가 애매해 동선이 꼬였습니다. 이를 ㄷ자 벽면 주방으로 다시 제작하고 냉장고를 벽 끝으로 밀어 넣었습니다. 주방 창문이 일부 가려지는 것을 감수한 선택이었지만 결과는 분명했습니다. 냉장고가 거실 쪽으로 돌출되지 않으면서 시각적인 선이 정리됐고, 거실에서 주방을 바라볼 때 느껴지던 답답함이 크게 줄었습니다. 요리하면서도 한강 조망을 시야에 둘 수 있게 되었습니다.

조망이 좋은 아파트 리모델링에서 자주 생기는 실수는 실내를 화려하게 만드는 것입니다. 안쪽이 시끄러우면 창밖은 배경으로 밀려납니다. 이 집에서 재료를 조용하게 고른 이유가 여기에 있습니다.

Hansol Gangbyun Maeul in Deokso, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi is a 93.4 sqm apartment, renovated by Bananafish in 2020. Faced with the view as material, we placed our role not in selecting what to add but in removing what obscured it. The protagonist of the living room was set as the river rather than the television. A long dining table was placed along the window, used by day for coffee in the light and by night for family conversation against the city view; this is now the place the client values most in the home. The entryway was cramped and opened directly onto the living room, so division came first. The shoe cabinet serves as a partition between entry and living room, with its entire side face finished in bronze mirror to prevent the closure from feeling heavy; as the inner door opens the living room is reflected, doubling the apparent width of the entry while also serving the practical use of checking oneself before leaving. The overall tone was designed as a background for furniture and paintings the client already owned: natural wood-toned engineered flooring with cream wallpaper on the walls. Cream is more comfortable than white and shifts the expression of the rooms with the angle of light through the window. The existing kitchen had a narrow work zone and an awkward refrigerator position that tangled the circulation, so it was rebuilt as a U-shaped wall kitchen with the refrigerator pushed to the end of the wall. This accepted partial loss of the kitchen window, but the result was clear: with the refrigerator no longer projecting toward the living room the visual lines resolved, the heaviness felt when looking from living room to kitchen greatly reduced, and the river view stayed within sight while cooking. The common mistake in renovating an apartment with a good view is making the interior elaborate; when the inside is noisy, the view outside recedes into background. That is why the materials here were chosen quiet.
